About the Club

The Portland Rowing Club was established in 1879 with the original mission of providing an athletic club for rowing members and a boathouse to store rowing shells on the banks of the Willamette river. Up until the 1940s, competitive and recreational rowing activities were the primary functions of the Club. Over time, the emphasis of the Club slowly shifted to an increasing interest in motorboats, cruising, fishing and houseboat living. Today, the Portland Rowing Club still has itís original boathouse full of rowing shells and rowing, our original reason for being on the river, is currently alive and well. But the Portland Rowing Club has expanded to include 17 houseboats, a clubhouse, a pump house and 95 boat slips.  PRC is made up of rowing members, year-round boating members, seasonal fishing members, on-shore members and resident floating home members that combine to form a community of people who share the common passion of being on the river.
